Students from Filamer Christian University (FCU) actively participated in the West Visayas Model United Nations (WVMUN) 2026 held at West Visayas State University from March 19–21.
Organized by the WVSU Model United Nations Society, the conference gathered delegates from across Western Visayas and beyond under the theme “Transcending Borders for Global Harmony,” promoting diplomacy, policy-making, and global cooperation.
The FCU College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) delegation prepared extensively prior to the event through research, position paper writing, and mock sessions. Senior delegates mentored first-time participants, ensuring that each representative was equipped with knowledge of their assigned country’s policies and global issues discussed in their respective committees.
A highlight of FCU’s participation was the appointment of Joevan A. Reliente as Vice Chairperson in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), marking the university’s first representation in the Board of Dais. His leadership contributed to the successful facilitation of sessions, guiding delegates toward the passage of a unified resolution addressing the Thailand-Cambodia border crisis.
Meanwhile, FCU delegates also demonstrated strong diplomatic performance across committees. In the UNGA, delegates contributed to the adoption of Resolution DP/UNGA/01, while in the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (UNCSTD), Crystal Grace Mateo helped pass a resolution on regulating artificial intelligence in warfare.
Additionally, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) delegates actively engaged in discussions on human rights issues, contributing to the passage of key resolutions on civilian protection and migrant rights.
The delegation’s efforts were recognized through awards, including an Honorable Mention for Mia Factolerin, fourth-year AB Political science student and a Verbal Commendation for Prissie Funa, second-year BS Psychology student.
Their achievements highlight FCU’s growing presence in academic simulations and its commitment to developing globally competitive and socially aware student leaders.
