Filamer Christian University continues to expand its global reach by sending two students to the 2026 Student Camp hosted by Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA) and Chung Yuan Christian University, Taoyuan City, Taiwan, August 17-21.

Amiga Lore B. Belloga, a second year Bachelor of Science in Business Administration student, and Andrea J. Aguihap, a third year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student, were the University’s representatives to the camp. They were accompanied by the University’s director for internationalization and global engagement, Dr. Mary Jane F. Tormon, who conducted series of meetings with different ACUCA universities in Taiwan

Centered on the theme “Communities for the Good,” the camp gathered 58 students from nine countries across Asia: Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, India, Myanmar, and the Philippines.

The five-day activity featured keynote sessions, small-group workshops, cultural night presentations, visits to Daxi Presbyterian Church and Daxi Old Street, and a hands-on pineapple cake-making experience. ACUCA Secretary General Dr. Cole N. Carnesecca and Dr. James Park of China Evangelical Seminary served as keynote speakers. They focused on reflections toward cross-cultural inclusion, social concern, and the broader values of sustainability.

Amiga Lore, who was assigned as one of the topic group leaders during the pre-camp online sessions, said, “Throughout the camp, we shared meaningful stories about our cultures and environments giving us a broader perspective on our shared community. Every morning, we sang worship songs and held open forums at Ruey-Li Chapel, followed by group discussions with my groupmates at the College of Humanities and Education building, which became my routine for a week.”

“We have a topic entitled “Lived Environment,” which gives us the opportunity to share the environments we grew up in such as how we were raised by our families, the life challenges we face in our communities, and how Christianity is evident in our daily lives. In the end, exploring our lived environment helps us appreciate how our backgrounds where we came from continuously shape our identity,” she added.

The delegates engaged in workshops addressing six global issues: demographic change, digital society, economic vulnerability, living environments, practical theology, and international security.

On the other hand, Andrea who was tasked to deliver an opening prayer for the August 19 fellowship dinner shares some of her experiences from the Camp “Looking back, it still feels surreal how a week at the ACUCA Student Camp could hold so much life. Immersed in an international space with peers from across Asia, our daily rhythm started with reflective worship and small groups that became a grounding anchor.”

“Having to experience different cultures while also living the culture in Taiwan made it even more memorable. These memories will always be a part of my life and I will never forget the friends I’ve made there for life,” Andrea added.

The FCU students also joined Dr. Tormon in one of the collaboration meetings with Taipei Medical University (TMU), Taipei, Taiwan, on August 24. During the collaboration meeting, they were able to learn about the profile, best practices and flagship programs of the partner university.

Aside from collaboration meeting with TMU, Dr. Tormon also visited other ACUCA schools such as Chung Yuan Christian University, Taoyuan City; Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, Kaohsiung City; Tunghai University and Providence University in Taichung City, expanding the University’s global presence and strategic partnerships.
