Don’t worry, just WURI!In its continuing pursuit of global academic excellence and innovation, Filamer Christian University (FCU) actively participated in a seminar-workshop focused on the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) March 25 at the FCU Board Room.
Spearheaded by International Programs Office Director Dr. Jane Tormon and the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, Internationalization, Innovation and Development, the seminar-workshop gathered faculty and staff of FCU to deepen their understanding of WURI’s framework, an international ranking system that highlights innovative programs, societal impact, and creative approaches in higher education.
Unlike traditional rankings, WURI places emphasis on how universities contribute to real-world problem-solving and transformative education.
Central Philippine University’s Dr. Dimpna Castigador took the helm as the resource trainer and trainer discussing six topics giving Filamerians a headstart.
“You have strong community projects; they just need proper documentation. WURI is a platform that recognizes and amplifies these innovations, allowing them to gain the visibility and impact they deserve,” Dr. Castigador highlighted.
During the activity, five departments including colleges of Engineering, Nursing, Education, Computer Studies, Hotel and Tourism Management, and Arts and Sciences presented their existing programs, projects and community initiatives that involve innovative approaches and strategies in conducting after the workshop proper
During the workshop and presentation, representatives from different departments received insights on crafting, documenting and improving innovative projects that would showcase FCU’s strengths in areas such as community engagement, sustainability, and student-centered learning.
“I have learned a lot from [this] session,” FCU Mass Media Coordinator Jose Erwin said. “It opened my eyes to the importance of innovation, strategic planning, and proper documentation. I now see how our programs can not only serve the community but also gain recognition on a global platform. This experience has inspired me to think bigger and make our initiatives truly transformative.”,”
The activity also served as a platform for collaboration and idea-sharing among participating institutions, encouraging the exchange of best practices and forward-thinking strategies. With the guidance of WURI experts, participants were equipped with the necessary tools to enhance their submissions and improve their standing in the global innovation landscape.
Further reinforcing this direction, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Minnie Chan, emphasized that innovation must be streamlined across all academic and institutional processes highlighting the importance of aligning programs, research, and extension initiatives with a unified vision of innovation to ensure that efforts are not only creative but also strategic, measurable, and impactful.
“This is another step forward, an effort to elevate our programs and ensure proper, comprehensive documentation so we can effectively showcase and sustain our initiatives,” Dr. Chan said.
As FCU continues to expand its academic horizons, its engagement in the WURI seminar-workshop underscores a proactive stance in fostering innovation-driven education and other initiatives.
