Filamer Christian University, Inc. (FCU) participated in the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA) 2025 Management Conference and 26th General Assembly held at Doshisha University, Kyoto, Japan, on October 14–16, 2025, carrying the theme “Future of Christian Universities in Asia: Christian Values in Religio-Cultural Diversity.”
Representing FCU were Atty. Zacarias D. Bedona, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Rev. Dr. Melvin M. Mangana, Vice Chairman of the Board; Dr. Mary Jane F. Tormon, Director for International Programs; and Prof. JR B. Formilleza, faculty member of the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Delegates from 41 universities across nine Asian countries were welcomed by Dr. Katsuhiro Kohara, president of Doshisha University and current ACUCA president for 2025–2026.
A highlight of the three-day gathering was the keynote address of Dr. Kato-Otani Eiko, president of Osaka Jogakuin University and College, titled “Educating the Heart and Mind in the Age of AI.” She emphasized the distinct mission of Christian higher education: to form both brilliant minds and compassionate hearts, integrate AI literacy into liberal arts and spiritual formation, and lead in ethical education.
The conference also featured panel discussions, Q&A sessions, and business meetings that confirmed the new members of the ACUCA Executive Committee for 2026–2027. Reports were presented on ongoing programs, including the Micro-Degree Program, in which FCU has actively participated since 2024, sending 69 college students to various partner universities.
During the business meeting, Rev. Dr. Mangana delivered the closing prayer, symbolizing FCU’s active engagement in regional Christian education initiatives.
Aside from the academic sessions, participants enjoyed networking opportunities, cultural exchanges, and fellowship that opened doors for future collaborations in faculty exchange, student mobility, research, and other academic endeavors. Delegates were also treated to traditional performances, cultural tours, historical site visits, and Japanese tea ceremonies.
A proud ACUCA member since 2004, Filamer Christian University continues to strengthen its global presence and commitment to Christian higher education. The Kyoto assembly served as a platform for exploring the role of faith-based institutions in shaping transformative, inclusive, and values-driven learning amidst Asia’s religious and cultural diversity.
The conference reaffirmed ACUCA’s vision of nurturing ethical leadership, social justice, and innovation, ensuring that Christian universities remain at the forefront of education that transforms both heart and mind in an ever-evolving world.
