Filamer Christian University (FCU) continues its legacy of academic distinction as it officially retains its Deregulated Status granted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), effective from September 2024 to September 2027. This milestone marks the third time FCU has earned this prestigious designation, reaffirming its status as one of the top-performing private higher education institutions in the country.
The Deregulated Status is awarded to select HEIs that consistently exhibit outstanding performance in academic programs, institutional governance, research, extension, and internationalization.
According to CHED Memorandum Order No. 46, Series of 2012, the status is given to institutions that demonstrate strong internal quality assurance systems, high rates of accredited academic programs, recognized Centers of Excellence and/or Development, international linkages and certifications, and proven institutional commitment to continuous improvement.
FCU is one of the only three HEIs in Western Visayas to receive Deregulation.
Filamer have undergone rigorous and comprehensive evaluations conducted by the CHED from 2019 to 2023 focusing on its educational effectiveness including student performances in board examinations, employability rates, and the alignment of the curricula with industry standards and demands.
With this recognition, FCU enjoys greater academic freedom, reduced government supervision, and eligibility for financial grants and scholarships under CHED’s Higher Education Development Fund (HEDF).
More importantly, it serves as a clear indicator of the university’s enduring commitment to delivering quality, Christian-based education to the youth of Capiz and beyond.
“This renewed Deregulated Status is a testament to our collective dedication,” said FCU President Dr. George Cortel. “It reflects the hard work of our faculty, staff, students, Board of Trustees, alumni, and partners. More than an honor, it is a call to continue raising the bar in our academic and service missions.”
With this milestone, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Capiz commended FCU through Resolution No. 1101 Series of 2025 while Office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Roxas City made the same gesture through Resolution No. 019 – 2025, highlighting Filamer’s role as key player in the education of Capiznons.
Throughout its more than 120 years of service, Filamer has continued to evolve while staying rooted in its founding Christian values. With this CHED recognition, FCU is once again reminded of its pivotal role in shaping globally competent, socially responsible graduates ready to lead and serve.
