Filamer Christian University, Inc. officially opened Academic Year 2025–2026 in a vibrant gathering that also marked the 58th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on August 26 at the FCU Gymnasium.
The event brought together more than 1,000 first-year students and transferees who filled the venue with energy and colors, proudly representing their respective departments.
The “Freshman Walk,” a signature Filamerian tradition, served as a symbolic passage for new students into university life and culminated in the official opening of classes.
University President Dr. George Cortel warmly welcomed the new members of the Filamerian community, affirming the university’s mission to nurture them both academically and spiritually.
“Welcome to Filamer, your home for the next four years. We are happy that you chose our school. We will do our best to transform you holistically,” Dr. Cortel said.
Following the opening rites, the spotlight shifted to the ASEAN 58th Anniversary Celebration, which highlighted the shared culture and unity of Southeast Asian nations.
The Silak Dance Company and FCU Chorale captivated the audience with collaborative performances that showcased the richness of ASEAN traditions expressed through music and dance.
Special guest Mr. Alphonsus Tesoro, Capiz Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer, graced the program with an inspiring message on the significance of ASEAN in today’s world.
He emphasized the role of cultural exchange and regional solidarity in strengthening identity and cooperation among member nations.
“ASEAN countries promote cultural diversity, identity, and understanding through activities like festivals, heritage management, and cultural exchange programs,” Mr. Tesoro underscored.
The ASEAN celebration also served as an educational experience for students, reminding them of the importance of unity in diversity and the role of young people in upholding ASEAN’s vision of peace, prosperity, and cultural harmony.
Through the twin celebration of the academic year’s opening and ASEAN’s founding anniversary, FCU reaffirmed its commitment to producing graduates who are not only globally competitive but also deeply rooted in cultural appreciation and international cooperation.
The event was spearheaded by FCU Student Republic, International Programs Office, Socio-Cultural Affairs Office, FCU Chorale, and Silak Dance Company.
