Filamerians secure spots in 2025 Ten Outstanding Students of Capiz Awards

Living out the values of service, excellence, and integrity, five exceptional students from Filamer Christian University, Inc. (FCU) were recognized in the 2025 Ten Outstanding Students of Capiz (TOSOC) awards held on April 27.

Demonstrating leadership grounded in action and compassion, these Filamerians stood out among their peers in both the Secondary and Tertiary categories of this prestigious annual recognition, organized by the Borres Youth Leadership Institute, Inc.

Leading with Purpose: Senior High School Achievers

Ivan Genesis Degracia, Governor of FCU’s Senior High School Student Government, was named one of Capiz’s Outstanding Senior High School Students. He stood out during Pag-ulupdanay, a values-based formation program, where he shared his vision of leadership as a simple but powerful combination of passion, vision, and action.

“I realized at Harapan that no amount of gratification can satisfy you if it comes at the cost of someone else’s happiness,” Degracia reflected, encouraging fellow students to lead with empathy and integrity.

Fellow Senior High student Hyrisha Kaye Coniendo, TOSOC finalist, received the Special Writer Award for her compelling essay on the importance of paying success forward. Her piece emphasized that true achievement lies in how one uses it to positively influence others.

“Filamer’s support gave me the confidence and tools to tell my story,” Coniendo shared.

Both SHS awardees were mentored by their adviser, Reuben Abalayan, whose guidance helped shape their leadership journeys.

Empowered Changemakers: Tertiary Category

From the college ranks, Danica Rose Bernal, one of the recipients of TOSOC Award, highlighted how FCU’s academic rigor and community involvement helped her develop a distinct leadership identity.

“Filamer provided the platform to apply my values. Now, I understand why I had to take a path that seemed difficult, it shaped who I am today,” she said.

Ricardo De Honor Jr. emerged as another inspiring figure, balancing academic excellence with advocacy work in mental health awareness and youth empowerment. His holistic approach to leadership earned him a well-deserved spot in the top ten.

“This award isn’t an endpoint, it’s a call to serve with even more passion and purpose,” De Honor affirmed.

Nichole Francisco was also named a finalist. She advocates for self-confidence and self-worth among the youth, reminding others that leadership isn’t about appearances, but authenticity.

“These Filamerians remind Capiz that leadership isn’t defined by titles or trophies, it’s about heart, service, and lifting others as you rise,” Francisco emphasized.

The tertiary finalists were mentored by Dr. Mary Jane Tormon and Ms. Chrissa Cabanus, who played key roles in preparing the students for the rigorous selection process.

All three of the College winners and finalist were from the College of Arts and Sciences.

TOSOC recognizes young Capiznon leaders for their academic performance, leadership, community involvement, and extra-curricular excellence. This year’s Filamerian awardees not only brought pride to their university but also reinforced its mission of producing servant leaders committed to meaningful change.
