HS Principal embarks on benchmarking trip to Japan

Aiming to provide real-world insights and strategies for a successful educational technology (edtech) implementation program, Ms. Urla Dela, High School principal, recently participated in a benchmarking trip to Osaka, Japan together with other 68 school heads across the Philippines, October 7-11.

The contingent immersed to various basic education schools and attended sessions on blended learning integrating educational technology such as the learning management system like Quipper.

Ms. Dela personally visited Riseisha Junior and Senior high School and Kobe Yamate Junior and Senior High School for Girls.

“Students in Japan are well-disciplined and respectful to both in and out of the classroom. Their campuses are very clean, no littering, no vandalism,” Ms. Dela shared.

She also noted that public schools in Japan are fully funded by their government, while private schools are commonly owned by corporations, but receive extensive support from the government.

In her observation, Ms. Dela witnessed how edtech is evident in Japanese schools, with every student and teacher equipped with devices provided by the school, with offerings on E-global education using a hybrid or hyflex learning scheme with classrooms designed to engage in online and onsite in synchronous classes.

“In the future, when we will have stable internet connection, it is nice to offer hyflex or hybrid learning modality. We can also invite students from other countries in our department taking short courses in English,” Ms. Dela said.

The official trip was organized and sponsored by Quipper Philippines.
