HSE, THES editors receive IWAG awards

Through their outstanding efforts in journalism and development communications, three editors from Filamer Christian University, Inc. were awarded with the prestigious IWAG Award by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) 6.

The Hillside Echo (College) editor Reynan Joel Ecamina, a BS Political Science graduating student, received the award for the college level.

Ecamina emphasized that HSE helped him hone his skills in writing news and cemented his love for campus journalism.

Meanwhile, The Hillside Echo – Senior (SHS) chief editor Prissie Funa expressed that through the award, she has gained confidence in writing and such articles should be factual and be dedicated in the dissemination of factual information to both the campus and community.

“Being an IWAG recipient makes me believe in myself that one can become a successful writer through being passionate and dedicated,” Funa said.

Kyle Laurence Ibañez, THES’ associate editor for print publications, dedicated the award to his publication and cited multiple people who helped him in his journey as a campus scribe which ultimately led him to nipping the award.

“It felt surreal. The fact that I was recognized by the region for my efforts in campus journalism is a manifestation of the sacrifices made in the name of responsible storytelling not just by myself, but also the people who supported me along the way,” Ibañez said.

The three Filamerians passed a compilation of their written articles, certifications, video presentation, and essay to PIA 6 as requirements for the award.

The IWAG Awards is an incentive scheme designed by PIA 6 to cite outstanding campus scribes who excel in the thrust for community development and responsible journalism.
