Filamer Christian University, Inc. welcomed its first-year and transferee students through the General Orientation, Mental Health, and Psychosocial Support Program spearheaded by the Guidance and Counselling Center on August 5 at the FCU Gym.

The program commenced with a devotional led by University Chaplain Rev. Medy Alimoane, who reminded the students that choosing Filamer was not an accident but part of God’s purpose for their lives. He encouraged them to trust in the Lord as they begin their new academic journey.

Attended by more than 1,200 new students, the morning session focused on introducing the university’s various support services, offices, and institutional policies. These included the Library, Clinic, Guidance and Counselling Center, Student Affairs Office, Chaplaincy Services, Scholarship Office, and other student support units. Key university officials and personnel were also introduced and acknowledged during the program.

In his opening remarks, University President Dr. George Cortel reflected on the progress he has witnessed during his 12 years of leadership while emphasizing the university’s Christian foundation.

“In Filamer, we believe in the Scriptures. It is the Word of God, the ultimate source of understanding and knowledge. Your faith will be strengthened here in the university,” Dr. Cortel assured the students.

Vice President for Academics Dr. Minnie Chan welcomed the students by highlighting the university’s strengths and its commitment to holistic and faith-centered education.

“If you are in Filamer, we do not just endeavor for you to grow intellectually, but also spiritually. Just look at our logo, the base is Spiritual. That is why we always incorporate prayer in our classes and activities, and we always have devotionals. We want to show you that it is always better to become an intelligent person with a strong relationship with God,” she shared.

Additionally, Dr. Chan underscored the university’s commitment to inclusive education.

“Filamer is inclusive; we welcome students, including those with physical or special needs, members of the LGBTQIA community, those from different religions, and people from all communities. We accept everyone because we want to help and transform you into the best individual you can be,” she added.

Mass Media Coordinator Jose Erwin Borbon presented the university’s Vision, Mission, and Goals, encouraging students to embody the institution’s core values and live by the principles of being a true Filamerian.

Meanwhile, Data Privacy Officer Dr. Mary Jane Tormon gave a comprehensive discussion on data privacy, reminding students to be responsible in their online activities and protect their personal information to avoid future risks and conflicts.

In the afternoon, the participants took part in interactive activities designed to promote mental health awareness, strengthen psychosocial well-being, and foster positive relationships among their fellow students.

The event was also embraced by Vice President for Finance Mrs. Esther Arceno, PIC for Vice President for Administration Prof. Exequiel Calimutan, OSA Director Rev. Dr. Webster Bedecir, University Registrar Mrs. Esther Sarmineto, with Guidance and Counselling Director Mrs. Phoebe Santiago, and representatives from the University Library and Health Unit.

Classes officially opened last July 27 where the school welcomed its new students. Meanwhile, enrollment is still Higher Education ongoing until August 14.
