Filamerians garner honors in podium presentation

Faculty members and students from the Filamer Christian University College of Nursing showcased excellence in research and innovation during the ADPCN Region VI Research Conference held at Roblee Hall on March 26.

With the theme “Educate, Innovate, and Lead for Safer Nursing Practice,” the conference gathered nursing professionals, educators, and researchers from across Western Visayas to promote evidence-based practice and innovation in nursing education.

Leading the university’s achievements was nursing student Icel Dwen Sitchon, who won the Best Podium Presentation Award in the Nursing Innovation Category for the study titled “Exploring Staff Nurses’ Mentoring Role Towards Nursing Students: Basis for Enhancement of the RLE Reference Manual.”

His research highlighted the important role of staff nurses in strengthening students’ clinical learning and professional development.

Sitchon shared that their experiences as student nurses inspired the study, recognizing how mentorship helps bridge classroom learning and clinical practice. Despite the challenges of balancing academics, clinical duties, and research, he emphasized that determination and perseverance helped them successfully complete the study.

Adding to FCU’s accomplishments, Clinical Instructor Adela Aldea, MAN, RN earned second runner-up in the Professional Category for her research titled “Co and Extra-Curricular Engagement as Predictors of Student Development and Outcome Achievement in Nursing Education.”

Other studies presented during the conference explored topics on clinical competence, faculty development, healthcare technology, medication safety, and caregiver well-being. International researchers also participated, presenting studies related to patient safety, caregiver stress, and healthcare leadership.

The conference, organized by the Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing, Inc. (ADPCN) Region VI, highlighted innovation, collaboration, and excellence among nursing professionals dedicated to safer and more effective nursing practice.
